The Colony Chorus formed in 1992 as a non-auditioned group of residents who love singing. Early choral directors and accompanists were also residents, until 2000 when these positions were recruited from outside the community. From the first 21 members, the chorus grew to 50-60 singers whose mission is to perform a variety of musical genres and styles in a non-threatening environment, and to perform concerts for their own and other residents' enjoyment, guided by an elected Board of Directors. Dues are $30 per person annually to cover costs of music, director, and piano accompanist. Percussion, guitar, string, and woodwinds are added for certain songs.
The Colony Chorus presents two concerts each year, with two performances for each concert: the spring concert on the last Saturday and Sunday of April, and the Holiday Concert on the first Saturday and Sunday of December. The two concerts have over 500 regular attendees.
Residents interested in singing are invited to join; you don't need voice training. We welcome your participation in Board and support roles, too. For more information about the chorus, contact us:
